“Why Your Gift Matters”
I have seen first-hand both why and how your gift matters. In the 2015-16 academic year, we awarded over $814,000 in Foundation scholarships. For some, this meant the difference between whether or not they would have a shot at an education. For others, it was the deciding factor in choosing Kean. It was an honor to be able to give students opportunities that might not have been possible without the scholarship and serve as a stepping stone toward realizing their dreams.
The generosity of donors has also enabled Kean to continue to build a culturally-aware, globally-focused and academically-rigorous institution. As we embark on a new year, I am energized by the changes I saw in 2016 at our Union campus as well as far east in Wenzhou, China, where our first graduating class attained their degrees last May. From the opening of the North Avenue Academic Building, which is chock full of research facilities and state-of-the-art learning opportunities, to the addition of innovative, new graduate programs like Physician Assistant Studies and Forensic Psychology, Kean is climbing the ranks of educational profiles and preparing to grow even more in 2017 and beyond.
Kean is a place of promise and opportunity. With 52 undergraduate and more than 80 graduate programs including five doctorates, a fully English-speaking campus in China and the cultural venues right here like the Human Rights Institute and three theaters, our students have the opportunity to receive a well-rounded yet affordable and personalized education that prepares them to not only be successful in their careers but also responsible global citizens.
These positive changes remind me of how thankful I am for the education and mentorship I received at this wonderful institution and how I now get to infuse some of my energy back into our current students and provide the support they need. But I couldn’t do this without a tremendous amount of help and the backing of a motivating group of people who work hard at promoting Kean’s message of equality, entrepreneurship and giving back.
