Kean, The Perfect Fit
December 19, 2018
For freshman Raymond “Ray” Arocha ’22 Kean was a perfect fit. Like many of our students, Ray grew up down the road from the University. Raised in Roselle Park, NJ, Ray attended Roselle Park High School where he often explored his creative side by taking architecture and engineering classes. Though no one in his family worked in the field or, even studied architecture, he knew this is something he wanted to pursue a degree in.
Four years ago, tragedy struck Ray’s family when his father, a 23-year veteran of the Newark Police Department, was killed in the line of duty. With a dream to attend college he knew he couldn’t leave his mom or younger brother. That is when Ray decided to explore Kean University. “I drove past the university so many times over the years and never really saw it.” But after looking into the Michael Graves College, it wasn’t long before Ray felt he found his perfect match.
Now finishing up his first semester, Ray can say with confidence he made the right choice in Kean. A scholarship recipient, Ray was able to receive the support he needed to begin pursuing his dream towards becoming an architect. This is another example of the high caliber student scholarships can help.
We hope that Ray’s story has inspired you as it has us. Kean has provided students with a world-class education to help establish their promising careers. Through the Foundation, we can aid their success with scholarships and educational opportunities. Please consider helping students like Ray reach their highest potential by making a gift today. It is through the art of giving, that truly make the holidays special.
