Having earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Kean (then Newark State College), he achieved his doctorate from Rutgers University.

In 2015, two months after his retirement, Artie suffered three strokes within 15 hours. He nearly died, and the strokes left him without the ability to read a single word. During the next two years, Artie taught himself to read again despite medical professionals stating it would not be possible. When he regained his ability to read, Artie began to write his memoir, which is now available on Amazon.

Proceeds from the book’s sale will benefit the Kean Fund for Excellence.
