2nd Annual HACE Gala Honors Kean University’s Dr. Claire Mulry

April 2024

On Friday, April 26, the Housing Authority of the City of Elizabeth (HACE) hosted its 2nd Annual Gala at Kean University’s STEM Building. This year, Dr. Claire Mulry, Kean University's Chairperson of the Department of Occupational Therapy, was among various community leaders being honored who have had an impact on HACE residents and the Housing Authority’s community at large.

Dr. Mulry’s commitment to the community, her students, faculty and partnership with HACE is longstanding and far-reaching. Over the years, Dr. Mulry has worked directly with HACE’s Deputy Executive Director, Cathy Hart, to develop various projects and programs ranging from creating beautiful public murals that depict the life stories of HACE residents to multi-generational gatherings through cooking classes and recipe sharing.

Through the generosity of private foundations, corporate partners and philanthropic individuals, Dr. Mulry has helped collaboratively to raise over $200,000 for the efforts of Kean’s Occupational Therapy team in partnership with HACE and the greater community. Dr. James Konopack, Dean of the College of Health Professions and Human Services, recognizes Dr. Mulry by stating, “Dr. Mulry's leadership of the Occupational Therapy Department is extraordinary, as is her ability to foster meaningful connections between our neighboring communities and the University. Claire's partnership with HACE has directly benefited the lives of individuals and families in the City of Elizabeth and beyond, supported Kean faculty and enriched the experience of Kean students. Claire richly deserves this recognition and award from HACE as she continues to facilitate community partnerships of significance.”

Congratulations, Dr. Mulry, on your well-deserved recognition for the important and compassionate work you do!
