A Message from the CEO - March 20, 2020
Dear Alumni and Friends of Kean University:
Our thoughts are with our global Kean community during this unprecedented time.
I am writing on behalf of the Kean University Foundation to offer our support, as well as share updates on the University’s response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The safety and well-being of our Cougar community are of the utmost importance to us, and we are closely monitoring and evaluating this evolving situation.
Yesterday, March 20, the University received confirmation that an employee on the Union campus has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual is doing well and has been self-isolating at home with full support from the University, which is working with health officials who are following up on the case.
As COVID-19 spreads across our state, confirmed cases at colleges and universities like Kean are upsetting, but serve as reminders of our shared responsibility to follow prevention methods and practice social distancing.
Kean students will be participating in remote education through the end of the current Spring semester. Access to campus is now restricted to only essential personnel and residents who have been granted special permission to remain living in the residence halls.
We are all living through extraordinary times. Just today, Governor Murphy announced a “stay at home” order, which will be effective beginning at 9:00p.m. tonight. Times of unprecedented challenges are also times to come together. I am proud to be part of this Cougar community. We share a grit and courage that can’t be taught, and it’s these characteristics which will help us through the hard times. It is these inner qualities that make being a Kean Cougar so special.
I hope this update is helpful as we aim to keep our alumni and friends informed. For more information about Kean’s response to COVID-19, please visit kean.edu/coronavirus.
Also, please know the Kean University Foundation remains accessible and ready to help our community. We are here to support you during this challenging time. Stay safe and take good care of yourselves and your families.
