KeanLift Application
Thank you for your interest in KeanLift, Kean University’s crowdfunding source that helps to financially ignite student, faculty and staff projects that represent the mission of the University. The platform, similar to crowdfunding sites like KickStarter or GoFundMe, allows for project advocates to tell their story and conveniently accept donations online.
Below is a list of frequently asked questions by those interested in using KeanLift to crowdfund for their project. For additional questions, please contact the Kean University Foundation or Alissa DiScala, at keanlift@kean.edu.
What is crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding is an online fundraising campaign in which a passionate group of project advocates with the assistance from the Kean University Foundation, tell their story through word and video and then solicit online donations from a large group of their own personal contacts via email and social media.
Does Crowdfunding require much effort?
Crowdfunding may seem like a quick and easy way to raise large sums of money, but successful projects require a great deal of time and intense work (planning, soliciting donations, writing copy, producing videos, creating social media content, thanking donors) from a team of 5-10 individuals who are passionate about the project, are willing to take ownership of the project and have a large network of potential supporters to engage.
What are the requirements for a successful campaign?
- A passionate team. As mentioned, a passionate team of 5-10 project volunteers are needed to run the many aspects of the campaign. Daily work is required during the entire project.
- A large crowd of supporters. The project team must be willing to personally reach out to family, friends and colleagues for support. It is recommended that each project volunteer has at least 50 relevant personal e-mail solicitation targets.
- A project that incorporates the mission of the University. A project that connects with the Mission of Kean University and is supported by project volunteers who are 100 percent invested in the cause, are essential for a successful campaign.
- Support every step of the way. When projects are approved to be featured on KeanLift, Kean University Foundation provides training and guidance throughout every step of the campaign.
Who can apply?
Applying to have a project featured on KeanLift is open to recognized student groups, faculty and staff.
Projects are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The Kean University Foundation is here to make sure your project supports Kean University’s mission and that crowdfunding is the best platform to raise funds for your project. KeanLift cannot be used to fund independent business or charity ventures, regardless of whether or not the people leading those ventures are members of the Kean community.
What are the charges and fees?
All donations made to KeanLift are considered a donation to the University. A fee of two percent or less is charged on the total dollar raised for each project. The fees are used to support the projects and other necessary maintenance on the KeanLift site.
